Here are 6 ways to recharge. I work one-on-one with coaching clients I always tell them they need to have fun as they build their writing careers.
After all, if you aren’t having fun as a writer, why write?
Yet, sometimes we can get overwhelmed or suffer from writer’s burnout.
When that happens, here are 6 ways to recharge:
1. Get away from your current writing project for a while.
And put the project out of your mind.
Don’t do this for too long, but take the weekend off, for example.
Or even a week.
Plan for this time off and you won’t feel guilty for not writing.
2. Meditate.
When I have many writing projects at once, I often meditate during the day, between projects, to clear my mind from the details of one project so I can concentrate on the details of the next one.
Meditation also helps me come up with new ideas for projects or even new marketing ideas for my business.
It can help you do the same.
3. Listen to music.
Music is so powerful.
It can immediately lift your spirits, so turn on some upbeat music for a few minutes, then get back to your writing, or play some soothing music as you write.
4. Get some exercise.
Take a walk, ride your bike, or just put on some music and dance around the room.
As writers, we sit at our desks or computers all day writing.
It can be so easy to miss out on the benefits of exercise if we tell ourselves we don’t have time to take a walk or go for a bike ride.
But make the time and you’ll have more energy.
Do this on a regular basis and you’ll start to feel better, both mentally and physically.
5. Do one thing you’ve never done before.
Something simple.
Maybe you’ve wanted to take a cooking class, but you’ve never taken one.
Sign up today.
Or maybe you’ve wanted to see a movie by yourself, but you’ve always been reluctant to go to the theater alone.
Well, do it today.
Doing something out of the ordinary (for you) can make you feel empowered and energized, so it will be easier to write once you get back to your work.
6. Putter around the house.
Bake something, clean something, sew something, clean out your bookshelf, just enjoy your home.
Sometimes we get so busy we don’t take time to “just be.”
Spending time lazing around the house can actually be energizing from time to time.
Try just one of these ways to recharge your creativity and energy for writing.
You’ll come back to your writing with a refreshed outlook and new enthusiasm for the work you need to do.
Try it!
