November writing prompts

These prompts are designed to lean into the mysterious, atmospheric vibe of November.

Have fun exploring these story ideas!

Monday’s Prompt: November’s Secret Parade

Late one night in November, you hear the sound of music outside your window.

When you look out, you see a parade of people in old-fashioned clothing, their faces half-hidden by moonlight.

They march in silence, except for the haunting music.

Write about who they are, why they appear only in November, and what happens if you decide to join them.

Tuesday’s Prompt: The Broken Calendar

You flip the page on your calendar, expecting to see December, but instead, it reads “November, Again.”

Each day feels slightly off, like déjà vu.

Describe the strange events of this endless November and your journey to escape the time loop.

Wednesday’s Prompt: The Stranger with the November Smile

You meet a stranger in a coffee shop who seems oddly familiar.

They strike up a conversation, talking about memories you don’t remember but somehow feel you should.

As the conversation unfolds, you realize they know details about your life no one else could.

Who are they, and what are they doing here in November?

Thursday’s Prompt: The Sunflower Patch

In the middle of a grey November day, you find a hidden patch of sunflowers in full bloom.

The air is warm here, and the sky is bright, as if it’s summer.

Write about this magical oasis and the person you meet tending the sunflowers, who seems to know everything about you.

Friday’s Prompt: November’s Lost Souls

Every November, you have the same recurring dream: you’re walking through a misty forest filled with whispering voices.

This year, the dream feels different. One of the voices calls your name directly, asking for help.

Who is reaching out to you, and what unfinished business do they have?

Saturday’s Prompt: The Midnight Note

On a chilly November night, you find a note tucked under your windshield wiper.

It’s written in elegant handwriting and simply says, “Meet me at the old clock tower at midnight. Don’t tell anyone.”

Write about what happens when you decide to go—and who you meet there.

Sunday’s Prompt: The November Masquerade

You receive an invitation to a masquerade ball happening in a remote mansion on the outskirts of town.

The invitation has no sender and no RSVP option.

When you arrive, everyone seems to know you, though you don’t recognize anyone.

Write about the mysterious night that follows and the secrets revealed under the masks.
