As a writing coach, I’ve seen many of my clients become much better writers simply by starting a regular writing practice.
And, most of them have done this by using creative writing prompts every morning to write a short story, poem, or even a song.
With that in mind, use one or more of these prompts each morning this week to start your own writing practice.
1. Now that Nancy had been given a clean bill of health, things were going to be different.
2. Jason had never had a broken heart before.
3. Two police officers stood at Marcy’s front door. She recognized both of them.
“I’m afraid your son has been arrested again, Mrs. Yarborough,” said one of the officers, “and there’s been an accident this time.”
4. It wasn’t easy losing 115 pounds, but Sylvia had done it. And now she couldn’t wait to attend her high school reunion next month.
5. Terrance had told Tara he loved her. So why did he just leave town with another woman, Tara wondered.
6. The doctors had warned Sharon that she wouldn’t recognize herself once the bandages were removed. Still, she wasn’t ready for what she saw in the mirror.
7. “How can you be cheerful at a time like this?” Morgan said to her husband.
8. Hayley wan’t afraid of her boss, exactly. But she feared asking him for the raise she’d need if she were going to stay with the company.
9. Janice wiped her eyes with a tissue as she told the police officer, “I haven’t seen my husband in 4 days. I’m afraid something horrible has happened to him!”
10. “You say you found this huge bag of money out in your front yard, Mrs. Tibble?”
Mrs. Tibble nodded. “Yes, officer, when I went out to the mailbox this afternoon to get my mail.”
