Here are some creative writing prompts from writer Joan Leotta for your daily writing practice in April.
1. It’s raining so hard. So hard I think the seeds I planted yesterday are floating away. So much for April showers bringing May flowers. Not in my garden.
2. The phone rang at five. Again at six. Seven. Eight. Then, mercifully, no ringing through ten, her bedtime.
Irene closed her book, grateful that “Toll Free Caller” had an earlier bedtime than she.
3. Power out again. Cassie went through the house on her usual routine, unplugging things that might be harmed if the power surged before coming back, pulling out flashlights, candles and her radio. As she rummaged in the drawer of her front room she looked out the window and realized hers was the only house suffering an outage.
4. So many delicate blooms. Wind had made a wide carpet of them across her lawn. At first it seemed random, then she noticed the floral path led to her neighbor’s open garage.
5. Crocus. So many colors. I thought I planted only purple and yellow, but stripes, white, yellow and pink are pushing their way up out of the ground.
6. Who can I call? There is a snake on my back porch. I think it has a rattle on the end of its tail.
7. This was supposed to be the saddest day of my life. Although my tears mimicked the rain outside, Inside, I was glowing. It was over.
8. Jane loved Easter. It always felt like a new beginning.
9. It was 8:00 a.m. Easter morning. Patricia heard her 19-year old son call out from the dining room. “Where’s my Easter basket? The Easter bunny didn’t come last night! What happened?”
10. The whole family would be arriving for Easter dinner in exactly one hour, and Meghan was not looking forward to it this year because…
