Years ago, when I first started writing for a living, another writer friend and I decided to hold each other accountable for getting our writing done every week.
We often held short (usually an hour) Power Writing sessions and then checked in with each other at the end of each session to report our progress to each other.
But that’s just one way an accountability buddy can help you keep up with your writing.
The point is, do you have an accountability buddy?
If not, make a point of finding one today.
Ways to Work with an Accountability Buddy
1. You and your buddy agree to each work on a specific writing project (you don’t need to work on the same project) on a specific date, at a specific time, for a specific amount of time. Afterwards, you email each other to report your progress.
2. You and your buddy email each other every evening with your writing goal for the following day and the progress you made toward today’s writing goal.
3. Email each other just two times a week – at the beginning of the week with your writing goals for the week. And at the end of the week with a progress report telling what you did that week to reach those goals.
4. Call, Skype, or meet with each other via Zoom just one day a week to report your progress and outline your goals for the next week.
It’s fun to Skype or Zoom because you’ll really get to know each other that way since you can actually see each other as you’re talking.
Okay…time to start making plans with your accountability buddy for next week’s writing goals.
Try it!
