Since January is StoryStorm month, and many of us are coming up with an idea for a new picture book every day this month, I thought it would be fun to create prompts based on some familiar fairy tale ideas and nursery rhymes.
1. The young prince kissed sleeping Beauty several times. Still, she did not awaken.
2. Now that all three little pigs were living in their brother’s house of bricks, things were much too crowded, and something had to be done.
3. The woodcutter knew there was more than one big bad wolf in the forest.
4. Cinderella and Prince Charming had been married for three years now, and life was not turning out so happily ever after.
5. The butcher, the baker, and the candlestick maker got out of the tub and went their separate ways, until…
6. Jack’s goose was getting too old to lay golden eggs anymore.
7. Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a bail of water. Jack got distracted and wandered off and Jill…
8. Little Miss Muffet had grown tired of tuffets and cottage cheese!
9. Snow White had grown a bit pudgy, and her hair was getting gray. “Mirror, Mirror on the wall,” she said, “Who is the fairest of them all?”
The Mirror beeped and said, “We’re away right now. Please leave a message and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.”
10. Goldilocks went back to the home of the Three Bears as soon as they left on vacation. She wanted to take a selfie and post it on Instagram since none of her friends believed her when she told them about the bears finding her in the little bear’s bed several months ago.
I hope these fairy tale ideas gave you some ideas to write your own fairy tales.
