About the Workshop/Teleclass
Writing for educational book publishers and book packagers can be financially lucrative and a great source of ongoing work for freelancers. These markets are expanding in today’s world of Common Core Standards and the subsequent emphasis on quality supplemental classroom nonfiction materials. But this type of work is not for everyone, and breaking into educational publishing is somewhat different than publishing trade books. In this workshop/teleclass I will present information on what educational book publishers and book packagers are, how to evaluate whether or not this type of publishing is for you, and what is involved in breaking into/writing for these markets.

About the Instructor
Melissa Abramovitz has been a freelance writer/author for 30 years and specializes in writing nonfiction magazine articles and books for all age groups. She regularly works with several educational book publishers and book packagers. Melissa is the author of hundreds of magazine articles, more than 40 educational books for children and teenagers, numerous poems and short stories, several children’s picture books, and a book for writers titled A Treasure Trove of Opportunity: How to Write and Sell Articles for Children’s Magazines. She graduated from the University of California San Diego with a degree in psychology and is also a graduate of the Institute of Children’s Literature.
