Here are 10 new creative writing prompts.
Use one or more prompts each day this week to come up with a new story or just use the prompts to practice writing dialogue, action, or sensory details.
One more thing.
Each written prompt, below, also includes a visual prompt.
If you don’t like the written prompt, use the visual prompt to come up with a completely different idea.
1. On Monday morning, Jenny sat in her office admiring her engagement ring. Allen had proposed over the weekend. Now, her boss tapped on her office door.
“Jenny, I’d like you to meet Ashton. You’ll be working closely with him over the next few months.”
Ashton was the most handsome man Jenny had ever seen.
A few minutes later, when the men had left Jenny’s office, she looked at her ring again. Was it just her imagination, or had it lost some of its sparkle?
2. As Katie was brushing her teeth that morning she was pleasantly surprised. “Hey, Mom, I have a loose tooth,” she yelled to the kitchen.
3. Marcy had never switched places with her identical twin before to deliberately deceive someone. But she’d agreed to do it this time because…
4. Natalie loved her boyfriend, Matt, very much. But she did not love Matt’s St. Bernard, Rufus, who always sat drooling on her clothes whenever she and Matt watched tv together in the evenings. “Love me, love my dog,” Matt had once teased her. But did he really mean it, she wondered.
5. Saffron Bennington was Mia Franklin’s boss. She called Mia into her office one morning before Mia even had a chance to take off her coat. Something Ms. Bennington (as Mia called her) had never done before.
“I need you to clean my house today, Miss Franklin,” said Ms. Bennington. She nodded at the file cabinet next to her office door. “There’s my house key.”
When Ms. Bennington noticed the puzzled look on Mia’s face she added, “I realize this may not seem like it’s in your job description, but in this case, it most certainly is.”
6. Everywhere you looked, the city was burning. “It’s the end of the world,” people said.
7. One sunny afternoon, Goldilocks heard someone knocking on her front door. She went to answer it and found 3 bears standing on her porch.
