Summer officially begins later this month, so here are seven writing prompts about the start of summer—one for each day this week:

#1. The Enchanted Lake.

As the summer solstice approaches, a hidden lake in your town begins to glow with an otherworldly light.

Legend has it that the lake reveals secrets and grants wishes only during the first week of summer.

Write about the journey of a character who discovers this magical place and what they wish for.

#2. The Time Capsule

One summer, a group of friends finds an old, buried time capsule from the 1970s in their backyard.

Inside, they discover letters, trinkets, and a mysterious map leading to an unknown destination.

Describe their adventure as they follow the map and uncover a hidden part of their town’s history.

#3. The Summer Festival

Your town hosts an annual summer festival that everyone looks forward to.

This year, a new attraction called “The Mirror Maze” is the talk of the town.

Rumors say that if you navigate the maze successfully, you can glimpse your future.

Write about a character who decides to enter the maze and what they see.

#4. The New Neighbor

Just as summer begins, a mysterious new neighbor moves into the old, abandoned house at the end of the street.

Strange things start happening around the neighborhood.

Write from the perspective of a curious child who decides to uncover the truth about the new neighbor.

#5. The Endless Day

On the first day of summer, time seems to stop, and the sun refuses to set, casting the world in perpetual daylight.

Explore the lives of a group of people dealing with the consequences of an endless day and how they try to bring back the night.

#6. The Summer Camp Secret

At a summer camp deep in the woods, a group of campers discovers an ancient artifact that grants them special abilities.

However, they soon realize that these powers come with a price.

Describe their journey as they navigate the challenges and try to return the artifact to where it belongs.

#7. The Lost Island

During a summer boating trip, a family gets caught in a storm and washes up on a seemingly uncharted island.

The island is filled with peculiar creatures and hidden dangers.

Write about their survival adventure and how they find a way back home.
