Each of this week’s writing prompts explores a life that could’ve gone differently—and what happens when your character gets a taste of that “other” version of reality.

Happy writing!

Prompts about Second Chances

Monday’s Prompt: The Do-Over Clause

Your character signs a contract without reading the fine print.

Turns out, it grants them one do-over of any day in their life.

The catch?

They won’t remember the original version… but someone else will.

Tuesday’s Prompt: Parallel Parking

A valet driver accidentally parks a car in the wrong version of reality—and now your character is stuck with a version of their life where everything is almost right… but not quite.

Wednesday’s Prompt: Rejected Realities

Your character discovers a hidden archive of all the lives they could have lived—every missed chance, every “what if.”

One reality draws them in—and starts pulling harder than it should.

Thursday’s Prompt: The Other Me

Your character meets someone who looks exactly like them—but more confident, more successful, and living the life your character once wanted.

The doppelgänger wants to switch places… just for a little while.

Friday’s Prompt: The Fork in the Road

Every year on the same date, your character wakes up in the life they would’ve had if they’d taken a different path.

Most years they come back.

This time, they’re not so sure they want to.

Saturday’s Prompt: The Chance You Missed

An old friend shows up out of nowhere and says, “It’s time.”

They claim your character signed up for a second chance years ago—and it’s now or never.

But no one remembers what the chance was for.

Sunday’s Prompt: The Door That Only Opens Twice

Your character finds a door that only opens for them—once when they first discover it, and once more when they’ve made peace with the life they’re living.

The question is: are they ready yet?
