Here are seven writing prompts based on people recovering from a recent hurricane:

Monday’s Prompt: A Family Rebuilds

A young couple and their toddler return to their home after a devastating hurricane.

With limited resources and nowhere else to go, they must rebuild their lives from scratch.

As they clear debris, they discover a hidden relic in the ruins of their home that holds a mysterious power.

Tuesday’s Prompt: The Shelter Chronicles

Inside a crowded hurricane shelter, strangers from different walks of life come together.

Write a story that unfolds through the conversations and interactions between these individuals as they wait out the storm, each with a personal loss or secret they are reluctant to share.

Wednesday’s Prompt: Unseen Heroes

After the hurricane passes, a group of neighbors rallies to help one another.

Focus on the quiet, everyday acts of kindness that people often overlook—like the elderly woman who lends a hand despite her own struggles, or the teenager who unexpectedly steps up as a leader in the recovery efforts.

Thursday’s Prompt: The Last Call

A hurricane wipes out all communication networks, leaving a small island town isolated from the mainland.

A single working radio becomes their lifeline, and the story follows the radio operator who makes a final, desperate attempt to reach help while battling their own internal demons.

Friday’s Prompt: The Photographer’s Lens

A photojournalist documenting the aftermath of a hurricane captures more than just destruction—hidden in their photos are small clues to an unsolved mystery.

As they follow the trail, they must decide whether to remain an observer or take action to help uncover the truth.

Saturday’s Prompt: A Second Chance

A woman who was on the brink of leaving her family before the hurricane now finds herself stuck with them as they recover from the disaster.

Forced to reevaluate her choices, she must decide whether to follow through with her plans or embrace the possibility of rebuilding not only their home but their relationship.

Sunday’s Prompt: The Missing Pieces

In the aftermath of a hurricane, a man sifts through the wreckage of his home, searching for anything that survived.

When he finds a series of seemingly random objects—each linked to a different memory—he embarks on a journey to reconnect with people from his past, realizing that these items are keys to unresolved moments in his life.
