Write a Children’s Book
More and more publishers are creating how-to books about writing for the young adult market.
A few years ago, I wrote Write a Romance in Five Simple Steps for Enslow Publishers.
And now, one of the newest books in the genre is
The back cover of the book says, “Young adults are in the prime position to write children’s books because they can actually remember what it was like to be a kid. Take Jake Marcionette, for example, who reached the NYTimes bestseller list at the age of 12. His books for middle grades are praised to having such a realistic, authentic voice.”
But, as with anyone who wants to write for children, first young adults need to know, what I call, “the tricks of the trade.”And it helps to have a step-by-step guide to writing and publishing for kids, which is what this book – So You Want to…Write a Children’s Book – is all about.
The book is also a bit more appealing to the YA market than books that have been traditionally geared toward the older adult market because this one includes many photos (both color and black and white) and lots of sidebars that make the information interesting to read and easy to understand.
The book also includes several case studies from published children’s book authors and others involved with children’s publishing, and I’m happy to report that I provided one of those case studies – about writing for mass market publishers.
You’ll find my case study on pages 30-32.
Plus, The Morning Nudge, the email I send out every weekday morning to subscribers, is also listed as a favorite email resource for writers.

Next month, the book will be showcased at the National Writing for Children Center, which will include an interview with the author, Rebekah Sack, on Book Bites for Kids.
I would definitely recommend this book to young adults – and anyone else – who wants to learn how to write and publish for children today.
It’s chock full of helpful information and resources.
Preorder it today, and be ready to start writing for children in 2017.
