Do you like to “cook” up stories?
If so, this month’s challenge is for you.
Here’s how the challenge will work.
Each week for the next four weeks, you’ll find a new post here with tips and materials to help you with your story.
So, let’s move on to this week’s lesson and assignment.
Week 1: Lesson 1 – Cooking Up a Short Story
Cooking up a short story is a lot like cooking up anything else.
It requires some specific ingredients that will need to be combined (cooked) in a certain way.
This week, you’ll need to gather your ingredients, so you’ll have them ready to start cooking next week.
Here are the ingredients you’ll need for your story:
A genre
Some Possible Markets with Word Limits for Your Story
A Tone/Mood
A Setting/Time Period
Some Characters
A Story Problem
A few Complications
A Climax
A Resolution
Now, please listen to this audio to learn more about each of these ingredients needed for cooking up a short story.
Then download the worksheet here and start gathering your ingredients.
You’ll need to have them together next week to accept this writing challenge and start cooking up your short story.
Enjoy!

Hello Ms. Suzanne,
I’m here with my students Dia and Arija. We are working on “Week 1” today. (We started late.)
The audio was very clear and helpful.
Dia has all of her ingredients. and Arija has most but will define the complications a bit more precisely and fill out the climax and resolution.
Thank you for this resource! The template is really helpful.

Hey,
