In summer, we see all sorts of weather, from intense heat to tornadoes, hurricanes, and droughts.

This week’s creative writing prompts are all based on summer weather.

Use one prompt each day for some, fun, daily writing practice.

Summer Weather Writing Prompts

Monday’s Prompt – A Summer Storm

Describe the experience of a sudden summer thunderstorm from the perspective of someone caught outside.

How do the sights, sounds, and feelings change as the storm approaches and then passes?

Tuesday’s Prompt – Beach Day Adventure

Write about a memorable day at the beach.

Focus on the sensations of the sun, sand, and water.

Include the activities and interactions with friends or family that made the day special.

Wednesday’s Prompt – Heatwave

Imagine living through an intense heatwave.

How does the extreme heat affect daily routines, mood, and the environment?

What creative ways do people find to stay cool?

Thursday’s Prompt – Summer Nights

Describe the atmosphere of a perfect summer evening.

Include details about the temperature, the sounds of the night, and the activities people engage in as the sun sets and the stars come out.

Friday’s Prompt – Camping in the Woods

Write about a summer camping trip.

Focus on the weather’s impact on the experience, from hot, sunny days to cool, crisp nights.
How do the characters adapt and make the most of their outdoor adventure?

Saturday’s Prompt – The Ice Cream Truck

Tell a story from the perspective of an ice cream truck driver during the height of summer.

Include descriptions of the weather, the variety of customers, and the joy that a simple treat can bring on a hot day.

Sunday’s Prompt – Summer Festival

Create a story around a summer festival or fair.

Describe the atmosphere, the heat, and how people enjoy the festivities despite—or because of—the warm weather.

Include vivid details about the sights, sounds, and smells of the event.
