second quarter of the year

Here we are—second quarter of the year.

The buzz of January is long gone, and maybe some of your writing goals have drifted into the background.

That’s okay.

This is your reset button.

This second quarter is the sweet spot—enough time left to make real progress, but close enough to the year’s end to start seeing where your momentum can take you.

Here’s how to make the most of it:

#1. Look Back Before You Look Ahead.

Take a few minutes to reflect on the first quarter.

What worked?

What didn’t?

Don’t overthink it.

This isn’t about judgment—it’s about information.

Figure out what helped you write more (or with more ease), and keep doing that.

Drop the stuff that slowed you down.

#2. Choose One Clear Goal.

Forget long lists.

Pick one writing goal for the second quarter.

Just one.

It could be:

• Finish your draft
• Submit to three contests
• Launch your newsletter
• Write every weekday

Make it measurable.

Make it doable.

When you focus on one clear thing, you’re more likely to actually finish it—and that momentum is gold.

#3. Break It Down into Weekly Wins.

Once you’ve got your second quarter goal, break it down into weekly mini-goals.

These should feel light, clear, and achievable.

If the goal is to write 30,000 words this quarter, that’s 2,500 words a week.

Simple.

Bonus tip: Celebrate each week you hit your target. Even a “well done” in your journal or a coffee treat can keep the energy high.

#4. Create an Environment That Supports You.

This isn’t just about where you write—it’s about how you feel when you show up to the page.

Clean up your writing space.

Light a candle.

Put on music.

Use a timer.

Whatever it takes to make writing feel like a welcome part of your day, not just another item on the to-do list.

#5. Say No to Stuff That Doesn’t Serve Your Writing.

The second quarter is short.

Time moves fast.

If you want to finish this quarter proud of your progress, you’ll need to protect your writing time.

Say no to distractions.

Say no to unnecessary obligations.

Say yes to your writing.

#6. Reconnect with Why You’re Doing This.

If your writing has started to feel like a chore, pause and remember why you started.

What do you want your writing life to look like?

How will it feel when you hit your goals?

Let that vision pull you forward.

#7. Use This Quarter to Build Momentum.

Don’t aim for perfection.

Aim for consistency.

Let this quarter be the one where you show up, do the work, and build trust with yourself again.

Small, steady action is what leads to big breakthroughs.

You’ve got a fresh three-month window.

Use it.

Focus.

Write.

Repeat.

The next 3 months could be the quarter everything shifts.
